Santa Claus on Queen Street

Goodbye Auckland’s giant Santa Claus

After almost sixty years, Auckland’s giant Santa Claus will retire after Christmas 2019. Like many in Auckland, we will also miss this festive season icon in which Envivo has had a proud technical, behind the scenes, involvement. Envivo (and previously as JAWA Structures) has provided structural engineering services for Santa’s installation over the past 15 years. Installing the huge Santa, two reindeer and presents on the side of an occupied heritage building on one of Auckland’s busy streets has had its challenges. The fibre glass and steel structure weighs more than 4,500kg and stands over 18 metres tall.

Santa was first put up on the corner of the Farmers department store on Hobson and Wyndham Streets in 1960.
