Envivo was contracted by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to undertake a legalisation survey of the recently completed Newmarket Viaduct replacement in Central Auckland. Being a live motorway situated up to 20m in the air above a busy commercial area, access to the viaduct was impossible.
NZTA came to Envivo for a solution, and we delivered. Utilising our Leica TS15 Robotic Imaging Total Station (the first of its kind in New Zealand) our team took a series of high accuracy remote measurements to the hanging structure. This in turn allowed us to create a 3D digital model of the viaduct. The imminent legalisation plans will define the 3D property boundaries and building restrictions (both on the ground and in air space) surrounding the viaduct structure to protect the interests of both the NZTA (as the owners of the airspace and viaduct structure) and the various owners of the land over which it sits. A clever solution for a complex situation.
Mark Finlayson, Envivo Director, said “The Newmarket Viaduct is an iconic Auckland structure and a significant engineering triumph. It’s been incredibly interesting to watch it evolve and we’re proud to have been involved in the latter stages in creating the 3D legalisation plans.”
