Auckland Unitary Plan Update
Hearings for the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan (“PAUP”) are shortly coming to an end. The Panel will then provide its recommendations to Auckland Council by 22 July 2016.
The Council will advise the public of the Panel’s recommendations on 27 July 2016. The Council’s website will summarise the recommendations including the panel’s suggested changes to the PAUP and a recommended version of the plan.
The next step is that the Council will consider the Panel’s recommendations and notify its decision on those recommendations by 19 August 2016. Agendas and minutes of the meetings will be available on the Council’s website.
James Hook, Envivo Planning Director, said “Where the Council adopts the recommendations of the Panel as its decision on the PAUP there are no appeal rights, and the relevant AUP (Auckland Unitary Plan) provisions would then become operative i.e. by the end of August. If the Council does not adopt the Panel recommendations on a specific matter or site there are Appeal rights to the Environment Court and the related provisions would not become operative until any appeals have been resolved.
“I expect that 90% of the Panel’s recommendations, at least, will be adopted by the Council.”
Our Planning Team are managing a high number of projects for clients who wish to secure consents under the operative Plan provisions in the next three months.
